Try these other Mexican cocktails on your next trip across the border.

When it comes to Mexican cocktails, the first drink that comes to mind is the famous Margarita. I mean, seriously, who hasn't had one? While this delicious drink is wildly popular in the States, however, there are a few other cocktails that are a much bigger deal in Mexico. Here are some Mexican cocktails not named Margarita that you may want to consider trying on your next vacation.

Paloma Cocktail
This is one of the most popular cocktails accross the border. It's like a Margarita, except it's bubbly. So what's in this thing, you ask? The Paloma includes reposado tequila, grapefruit juice, club soda, agave syrup and a squirt of lime juice. Serve it on the rocks and enjoy with some guacamole and chips.  A simpler, quicker way to make a Paloma is to mix tequila with grapefruit soda such as Jarritos, Squirt or Fresca and a squirt of lime. It is especially refreshing on a hot day, and you'll encounter plenty of those in Mexico.

Michelada
Had one too many Paloma Cocktails the night before? We've got just the remedy. The Michelada is a traditional beer cocktail that is known to cure even the worst hangover. It is a combination of Mexican beer, Clamato, Maggi seasoning, lime and a touch of hot sauce. Rim the glass with some salt and you are set to go. Why is it called a Michelada? Who knows? Who cares? It’s delicious!

Vampiro
This combination of lime juice, tequila, sangrita and grapefruit soda is Mexico’s answer to the Bloody Mary. The Vampiro, which gets its name from its blood-red colour, is one of Mexico’s most popular drinks. Served in a salt-rimmed glass with ice, this nocturnal beverage packs quite a bite!

Of course, if you’re not into mixed drinks you can always enjoy your tequila neat or on the rocks. Just buy the best tequila that you can afford. Some brands that you may want to try are Casa Dragones Blanco, Casa Noble Reposado. For cocktails, you might want to try Fortaleza Reposado. Cheers!
